This loving tradition is not known everywhere in the world but it belongs tightly woven to the Christian tradition during advent season. It is a special calendar used to count the days of Advent in anticipation of Christmas. It has been known since the 19th century and was first introduced by German Lutherans. There are many variations of Advent calendar. Traditional ones feature the manger scene, Saint Nicholas and winter weather, while others range in theme, from sports to technology. They come in a multitude of forms, from a simple paper calendar with flaps covering each of the days to fabric pockets on a background scene to painted wooden boxes with cubby holes for small items.

This Prehistoric Advent Calendar is filled with 24 mini figurines of dinosaurs plus 6 added AR cards. The back panel of the box contains a die cut paper diorama for additional play value.
